Tired, Cranky and Moody Part 2

Is this you? Tired, Cranky and moody? Part 2:

Following on from last weeks article where we opened up the discussion and awareness of low blood sugars/hypoglycaemia and adrenal fatigue. I hope you had a serious look at your patterns and now with greater understanding will endeavour to break the sugar/refined carbohydrate cycle. Believe it or not it only takes about 7 days to change your taste buds. It sure can take longer to break the habits but be persistent and keep well hydrated in the process which will make the task a whole lot easier.

When sugar levels increase rapidly in the body which will happen when you eat or drink something mainly sugar based like fizzy drinks, bakery goods, white bread, chocolate , sweets and so on, there is also an increase in free radical activity in the brain cells. The serious downside to this is that people actually age faster than normal and various disease and illness takes hold. It can take 10, 15, 20 years for disease to develop, so what you today will be important down the road.  People will often have symptoms of tired brain, foggy brain, forgetfulness, just lack of clarity and motivation which can come as a result of excessive refined grains in their diet or excessive sugar based foods. The other side impact can be noticeably found in children when they become hyperactive, they are literally buzzing on sugar with excessive energy they just do not know what to do with themselves. This can also affect their learning capabilities, their behaviours, tantrums and so on. It breaks my heart to work with young children who have exhausted adrenals due to high sugar refined carbohydrate diets, when it can be completely managed and prevented.

Sugar is addictive so the more you have the more you want. So how can you change this pattern?, well first of all you need to become aware of your diet and what you actually are eating, and then you need to look at how often you are eating and what your portion sizes look like. Both eating too much and too little have big impacts upon blood sugar levels, insulin production , weight , metabolism, energy levels, anxiety levels and overall health and wellness.

A drop in blood sugars can have a similar impact in the body as having a panic attack. The anxiety from that will cause the already tired adrenals glands to produce more stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol, coming down form a panic or anxiety attack can leave you feeling floored or completely wiped out for days after.

Because you feel wiped out, you reach for sugary based foods/refined carbs to lift you back up. The vicious circle continues. I work closely with people in helping them break this cycle through proper nutrition , changing lifestyle habits to support better health and working on emotional stresses, strains and traumas which can be the underneath issue to the imbalances in the first place.

Minerals such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, chromium, zinc among others play a vital role in helping to regulate blood sugar levels. Good fats are critically important and absent in the majority of peoples diets because people hear the bad press re fats.  You need good fats such as flaxseed oil, hemp seed oil, avocados, nuts such as almonds, chia seeds, olive oil, coconut oil and many more DAILY in your diet.I have yet to find a person with  a weight problem because they eat TOO MANY good fats!!!! Start today and make some positive changes to help stabilise your health, your energy , your wellness and your happiness ….
