What is Metabolic Syndrome?

Many people which I work with fall into the category of having metabolic syndrome. How do you know if you have metabolic syndrome? Metabolic syndrome is typical of many people in today society as having abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, increased blood sugars, increased triglycerides, Low HDL-cholesterol And Raised LDL-cholesterol.

Each one of these different symptoms are interconnected. Metabolic syndrome can occur at any age however it is now found among many very young people. It is typical of people who yo-yo diet, who cannot lose weight, typical of people who have constant cravings and binges of foods, typical of people who are tired all of the time, typical of people who have low motivation and a low desire to exercise.

The first thing you need to do is decide whether you have metabolic syndrome or not and if you do not yet are you heading there? It does not go away on its own nor can it be fully treated through medication alone. The real long-lasting benefits and change come through you making decisions about changing your lifestyle.

For example, if you just decide to exercise for 5 to 10 minutes every day, drink extra water, eat meals at regular intervals and get to bed on time to ensure you get a good night’s sleep, all these little steps will go a long way to make a change in helping you to stabilise blood sugars, reduce cravings and help you to lose weight. All this has a further benefit of reducing your BP and your triglycerides, which are the bad sticky fats which stick to arterial walls and lead onto heart disease.

If you are already taking medication for high blood pressure or cholesterol you must continue. You must medically get examined with your doctor at regular intervals and advise them of the recommended diet and lifestyle changes that you would like to make. The most difficult part of making changes to your lifestyle is actually making the decision of when to start.

I have only indicated some of the symptoms and health problems which can result however further problems such as osteoporosis, liver congestion, gallbladder problems, diabetes, joint problems are the next problems which may be facing you.

I recommend you start today by keeping a journal or diary of exactly how you feel for the next seven days. Rate how you feel on the scale of one to 10, 10 being the worst, one being the best. How many good days will you have? Decide which place you are going to start to get your life back on track again. Through working with people in person, together we make out a plan of action to help them feel great again.

I will be going into detail on these topics as part of my one day HEALTHY YOU event, June 30th, please contact me if you would like the details
