Do You Have Brittle Nails?

Loads of people come to me with thinning hair and brittle nails, which more often than not are a sure sign you are having difficulty absorbing your nutrients or indeed eating a low nutritious diet to begin.  As you have heard me say before just because you are eating food does not mean you are eating food in the nutrients which your body needs for its fuel and every single function of the body.

There are approximately 100 trillion cells in the average body, that is a lot of microscopic cells which make up every nerve fibre, every organ, every brain cell, every part of your body which needs feeding and nourishing so they can do what they are supposed to do….i.e. keep you healthy and well.

If you are not feeding the body it cannot do its work and simply put the body suffers in some way. Often you will see the nails being brittle or cracking easily or having ridges in them because they are on the outside of the body, what you need to become aware of, if this level of abnormality is evident on the outside of the body, what is going on in the inside where you cannot see it with the naked eye?

Usually I find when the body is not absorbing nutrients it is an indicator that the liver is in need of some help as it is most likely not detoxifying properly. Being on long term medication or pain killers or excessive alcohol or food additives form processed foods will not help. Nettle tea is brilliant, I love it. It is very nourishing and soothing for the body and 2-3 cups per day works wonders on liver and bowels. It gently gets everything moving in the right direction!

The other thing re absorption and evidence of splitting/cracking or brittle nails is you may have low stomach acid. You may not be producing enough digestive enzymes or Hydrochloric acid which are both critical for a healthy mind and body. Without these you may experience all kinds of digestive upsets or discomfort including stomach/gut pain or cramps, indigestion, burping, heartburn, headaches, dizziness, tiredness, difficulty sleeping, irritable bowel syndrome and more.

Minerals such as calcium, magnesium, zinc and good fats are all very important too for strong glowing healthy nails. So I want you to start looking inward, the answer always lies on the inside. If you have brittle nails, it is more than likely not a nail issue but a nutrient deficiency issue. Often when I start to work with people whether they come with nail symptoms or not as they will often report that once they improve their diet or we work on the specific digestive problem they have had that they see a noticeable change in their hair and their nails, almost immediately.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say! Enjoy wholesome nutritious foods every day and plenty of water too of course. Think of the colours of the rainbow, the more natural plant based colours you get into your body, the healthier your body. Think of white foods such as bread, pasta, rice, potatoes as foods you should only have on occasion and not as part of your daily diet.
