Fungal Overgrowth

Are you suffering from bloating, excess wind or flatulence, Fungal skin Infections, athletes foot, thrush, furry tongue, itchy skin, tiredness which is not received by sleep? You may have an imbalance of fungi in the body, candida is just one type of fungal overgrowth and it is very common. Fungal infections are very common causes of the above symptoms in the body.  Fungi are single organisms which grow extremely easily in the body, when they go out of balance the fungus becomes a toxin the body tries to detoxify.

When the natural fungal flora goes out of sync in the body due to stress, infections, toxin overloads e.g metals, parasites etc, poor diet/ lifestyle, it can leave you feeling unwell. This is when the acid/alkaline balance gets upset and fungi thrive in the moist warm acidic conditions of your body. The overgrowth of fungi in your body can deplete you of vital nutrition, which your body needs to function properly.

Fungi mainly consist of yeasts and moulds. You can come into contact with them from the air, food or environment. They can affect your system in a number of ways as mentioned above. If your house or workplace is quite damp and prone to a lot of mildew or mouldy spots it can have a depleting effect on your immune system and energy reserve.

Natural occurring fungi: Mushrooms, yeast risen products like bread and cakes. Fermented products such as wine, beer, tempeh, soy, Quorn (Vegetarian product derived from fungus), Cheese, vinegars are all best avoided if you are suffering from a fungal overload in your system. Fermented foods can be of huge benefit to some and make others much worse. You need to listen to your body and watch out for signals of symptoms getting better or worse.

Fungal skin conditions usually keep reoccurring when they are treated topically only. They need to be treated from the inside to get rid of the root.

Treatment: Includes methods to de-stress the body. Fungal infections thrive when the body is suppressed or stressed out.   Generally anti-fungal antidotes to remove the fungus from your system such as pau d’arco, probiotics, selenium, oregano, black walnut, to name just a few… are necessary to kill off what is present, sometimes a lot of flatulence or excess wind may be experienced in the die off of the overgrowth. Some dietary and lifestyle amendments and advice may also be included. Things like cutting out excess sugar and even in some cases removing all fruit from the diet, it really depends on the level of overgrowth and the factors contributing to its occurrence in the first place. Many treat the issue with only strict diet and it is never enough, starving the fungi will cause die off which then goes dormant, once you feed it again you are back to square one…It needs to be killed off and starved and rebalanced longterm with overall lifestyles changes and a healthy balanced diet.

Increasing the alkalinity of the diet is a must. This can be achieved by increasing more greens and whole foods into the diet, wheatgrass, chlorella, spirulina and lots of green leafy veggies can make the world of difference. Ensure the body is well hydrated to flush out the toxins and also to help keep the toxins at a more manageable level to begin with. Many drink aloe vera juice or apple cider vinegar in the mornings, These do not work for everyone in the same way but if you haven’t yet tried them give them a go and start off with small amounts and build them up over a period. Nothing will work overnight so you must persevere and make other changes too. Getting sufficient sleep is paramount to boost the bodies own natural healing and immune boosting properties.

Some medications and anti-biotics can make issues worse. Always take a probity after any anti-biotic.

Fungal infections can be contagious so good personal hygiene is a must. Use footwear in public pools, don’t share towels etc The approach of Kinesiology is to treat the problem from the inside out. From my experience this allows the root cause of the problem to be treated more effectively. I have often had people who would complain that they had patches of dry skin, redness, scaly patches or fungal blotches and by treating the inner digestive system the issue with the skin would disappear.
